I have always loved the song "The River", by Garth Brooks, and probably more-so because of the well-written lyrics. After ripping the CD to my iTunes library last weekend, I was inspired to make a layout using a portion of the lyrics. The photo I used was one that I took while on site for work a couple of years back, and I printed it on some canvas paper, along with the lyrics, which I then cut into strips. When Jason saw the photo that I was using, he asked me if I was making a memorial album for work. As if! I was a bit to-and-fro with what title lettering to use, and settled on some raw chipboard.

WEEK 6 Recap

Quite frankly I can't believe another week has come around again so soon. With little to report as being achieved, I can only empathise with Cathy Zielske, who has posted this blog entry today. What she shares, so eloquently, is exactly how I am feeling at the moment, and specifically in regards to being a switch person. I seem to only be able to focus on one thing at a time, and at the moment, that is finishing up at work before starting a new job. My hope is that with the change in employment, will come an increased focus in developing lifestyle changes.

[nutrition]
> drink more than 2.0 litres of water each day :: ACHIEVED
> one take-out / dining out meal only :: not achieved

[training]
> 4 x 30 minute cardio sessions :: not achieved
> 2 x strength training sessions :: not achieved
> 5 x 20 minute yoga sessions :: not achieved

[lifestyle]
> wake up at 5.3am most mornings :: ACHIEVED (this was made possible by Sam waking me up each morning, with Jason being away)
> lose 0.5kg
:: not achieved (gained 0.5kg instead)

WEEK 7 Goals
This coming week, my focus is on very simple, therefore hopefully achieveable goals. I will be having a big night out on Friday to celebrate my change in jobs. This will undoubtedly bring me undone in the weight loss goal (I always gain after drinking).:

[nutrition]
> drink more than 2.0 litres of water each day
> three main meals each day, with the larger meal at lunch-time, and a salad for dinner (each day except Friday)

[training]
> 4 x 30 minute cardio sessions
> 2 x strength training sessions
> 5 x 20 minute yoga sessions

[lifestyle]
> wake up at 5.30am most mornings
> lose 0.5kg

and I will try and remember,

"Nothing tastes as good, as being slim feels"

Not sure who's quote this is, but it's an oldy from my time with Weight Watchers.

FOR TODAY
Tuesday October 13th, 2009

Outside my window... it is really windy.

I am thinking... how good it will be to have Jason home tomorrow night, as he's been away the best part of a week, for work.

I am thankful for... a plumber who was quick to respond. I came home to a kitchen floor covered in water last night, and the plumber came about 2 hours after I called this morning. Very appreciated of that.

From the kitchen... some leftover chicken biryani.

I am wearing... my work uniform, but its days are numbered.

I am creating... a mess, by trying to sand back our old office desk, before painting it. (Jason has some serious doubts).

I am going... to try and have this desk finished this weekend, since I'm having a long weekend.

I am reading... "Always Looking Up" by Michael J Fox. Trying to extricate myself from the world of vampires and supernaturals, by reading about MJF's struggle with parkinson's disease. His positive attitude is very inspiring.

I am hoping... I have time to wind down at work before finishing on Friday, although the prospects aren't good.

I am hearing... repeats of Friends on pay tv.

Around the house... it is quite clean, and the novelty of the new dining room furniture hasn't worn off yet.

One of my favorite things... is dark chocolate, and I am going to partake of some once I've finished this post.

A few plans for the rest of the week... surviving these last 3 days of work, and the pub crawl on Friday afternoon. Mum and Dad are also leaving again on Friday, so I'm catching up with them tomorrow.

A picture to share... when I came home for lunch today, this was the only response I got from Jessie. Serves me right for interrupting her daytime sleep I suppose:

This week's recipes are all about sugar. I baked some new cookies last week, which were very moreish, and the other recipe is courtesy of my sister, who makes the best (and easiest) brownie in the world, and this is it.

WEEK 5 Recap

While I did end up losing 0.5kg, and drink my intended water intake each day, I fell way short of my other goals, in particular the training aspect. Not wanting to give too many excuses, but the arrival of our new living room furniture took away all my focus, as I was too busy lifting, shifting, dusting, and organising. So given that, I'm not too disappointed in my achievements this week.

[nutrition]
> drink more than 2.0 litres of water each day :: ACHIEVED
> NO coke or alcohol (a big one considering what I have consumed in the last week) :: not achieved
> one take-out / dining out meal only (also a big one considering the last week, although I am looking forward to some home-cooked meals)
:: ACHIEVED

[training]
> 4 x 30 minute cardio sessions :: not achieved
> 2 x strength training sessions :: not achieved
> 1 x pilates class :: not achieved
> 5 x 20 minute yoga sessions :: not achieved

[lifestyle]
> wake up at 5.30am most mornings (I have found that getting up earlier than 6am is actually a bit easier, than dead-on 6am - weird I know) :: not achieved (only 3 mornings)
> lose 0.5kg
:: ACHIEVED (0.5 lost)

WEEK 6 Goals
This coming week, my focus is on the same goals that I set last week. I have deleted the 'no coke/alcohol' goal, as I know with my girls night out this Friday, that there is no way that that's going to be achieved:

[nutrition]
> drink more than 2.0 litres of water each day
> one take-out / dining out meal only (with Jason being away for the majority of the week, I will have to be especially strong to not just go grab something 'quickly')

[training]
> 4 x 30 minute cardio sessions
> 2 x strength training sessions
> 5 x 20 minute yoga sessions

[lifestyle]
> wake up at 5.3am most mornings (I have found that getting up earlier than 6am is actually a bit easier, than dead-on 6am - weird I know)
> lose 0.5kg

is it wrong that I'm eating light caramel popcorn as I type this post?.....
Last weekend, I made a couple of cards that I thought I would share. One of the cards was for my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. This one is a little different from your standard card, and a type I've made before for my sister. It uses their wedding photo (this time printed on canvas), with a vellum overlay, where you can stamp (or print) the sentiment. This time, I simpled adhered a wooden '60' which I had inked to match the background cardstock.
The second card was for Gemma's baptism, so I kept the colours quite girly and pastel, and in lieu of any christening sentiment stamps, used 'heavensent'. I love this cuttlebug embossing folder.
Today's little list of inspiration is a real mixed bag, from tattoos (and no I'm not getting another one), to wedding menu ideas, and new scrapbooking products. So bring them on: Firstly, here's a link to a post with some amazing photography:

This menu wheel idea for a wedding is really unique. Not sure I would use this color scheme, but I really like the concept:

Seeing this project prompted me to purchase the BG Indian Summer collection pack:

I love the tag line on this tattoo, and wish I could draw like Elsie:

Really like this color combination, and hope to use it in the near future:

This cute elephant paper reminds me of my friend Bryde (who is infatuated with anything to do with elephants:

and finally for the cuteness:

On Saturday night we helped celebrate Grandma & Grandad's 60th wedding anniversary at the North Mackay Bowls Club. Their actual anniversary is on Wednesday (7th October), but we celebrated early with balloons, cake, and letters from the Queen and Govenor-General. Both of these letters were hand-delivered to Grandma & Grandad by the postie (as in, right up to the door). Grandad was very chuffed with that. Here's a couple of pics, keeping in mind, that the bowls club lighting is not conducive to good lighting for photos:
