Rather than the week in focus post I was doing on Sundays (well, it only ran a couple of weeks), I thought I would post 10 random goings-on, on Tuesdays. Why Tuesdays? Well, it goes well with 'ten'. Not much thought going into it really.

1. This rain is slowly driving me insane. Enough already. And with that, I am well and truly over the humidity as well. I am sick of having my hair wet, either from the rain, or having to wash it by necessity because of the humidity while training. Bring on winter. The olympics is making Canada very attractive...

2. Progress is being made on refurbishing the old desk I plan on using in my craft room makeover (home project for March). I'm not entirely happy with the paint finish at the moment, but I think it will get better with more coats. Current estimate is at least 3 top coats. Therefore the whole painting of desk and filing cabinet is going to take me a few more weekends.

3. Our bedroom's airconditioner is still on the blink. Rather than the chances of drowning in our own sweat each night (disgusting, I know), we have moved into the spare bedroom. This room is so dark, and if it wasn't for the alarm clock, I wouldn't be out of bed until well after I'm supposed to be. It's amazing how habitual the dogs are. After a week in the 'new' room, they still think bedtime means the old one, and look a little put-out, when we set them straight.

4. The only benefit of all this rain, is that my herb garden is flourishing, producing way more herbs than I am able to use. I was very chuffed at being able to use some of my very own spring onions on the weekend. They were raised from seed, and have been non-existant until recently. There is something very exciting about being able to use/eat something you have grown from scratch.
Although these mushies probably aren't edible...

5. The Gordon kids are growing so quickly, especially Angus, who was all smiles when I went to visit them on Friday. I love that I can have little conversations with Charlie now, even if I don't understand every word. My wish for her this week is that school (aka day care) goes a lot better. She is such a worrier and a thinker (like her mother), that sometimes everything gets the better of her.

6. Due to some proposed training for work, it looks like I get to visit Tamie in April, and not have to wait for their visit her in June. It also means I definitely get to meet baby Kelly about 4/5 weeks after he/she arrives, and spend time with her/his mum on her birthday. I am pretty sure Baskin & Robbin's 31-derful flavours will be involved.

7. I've found a great site to log my training, over at dailymile.com. It's like a Facebook for runners, and is very motivating. I love seeing the weekly km's add up. I don't have any 'friends' on there yet, and don't really plan to. It's more a way of recording distance/pace/time online, rather than using an excel spreadsheet.

8. I really need to do some scrapbooking. Not because I have to, but because I want to. I just need to find the time (and clean up the craft room).

9. Ben came down for a visit on Saturday night, after his second professional MMA fight on Friday night. He won in 39 seconds by knock-out. It was good to see him (especially in one piece), even if it was very briefly. Why am I so jealous of the fact he could sleep in until 12pm on Sunday?

10. "Back in Black" by ACDC is my most played song on my iPod (according to iTunes). See, I told you this list would be random.

OK, so it may not be that improved, but I've decided to change my weigh-in day to Monday. The reason for this? I've joined Jenny Craig, and I'm limiting myself to one weigh-in a week, rather than jumping on the scales every morning expecting big results.

So, I have followed the JC program now for two weeks, and I've lost 2.2kg! Amazing! My training regime has not changed since before I started with JC (when I wasn't losing anything), so this proves that I have issues with what I'm putting in my mouth. One week on JC will definitely let you know when you're portion sizes have been out of control. You also develop a dependency on fruit and vegetables.

So there you have it. Stay tuned for more exciting (ok, maybe not that exciting), news from my weight-loss journey.
I'm finally getting around to posting some of the results of the photo shoot my family had, just prior to Christmas. The shoot was done in various locations around the city in Toowoomba. There are some very interesting walls, as you will be able to see from the photos. All-in-all I am happy with the results. Tamie and I are choosing to call these our 'before' photos, and even though Ben couldn't make it, I am pleased we went through with it. They give me a few photos to choose from for a canvas of mum and dad, for our front entry. Something that has been stalled for quite a while.

Love this photo of Tamie and her family, especially the fact that we ended up with a photo of Fletcher where he was smiling, and not puking up...
Mum and Dad had quite a few good ones, but I think this is my favourite...
A group shot...
Tamie and I, trying in a small (and random) way of including Ben in the shoot...
Us...
and finally, Tamie, Mum and I. This one specifically is our 'before' shot...

Thanks to Simon at Salt Studios for his patience, and the great results.
Wish I had the patience to create a spectacular card like this:

Check out these cool laptop cases. I think I would be a little suspicious if I saw someone walking around with an old book like this though...

A cool coupon book for a valentine's present. I have made something similar before, and now thinking about it, I don't believe Jason has cashed them all in...

This minimalist furniture is pretty innovative. And while it is pretty unique and space-saving, it doesn't look that comfortable...

Apple has done it again. There is a little skepticism out there about the practicalities of the new iPad (like this review on the Unclutterer blog), but the tech-head in me just wants one. I can see using this more, than I can the iPhone, especially while travelling...

If you've ever read "Eat, Pray, Love" (and liked it), you will like this TED talk she recorded on harnessing and nurturing your creative genius.

This new product line from Basic Grey is just so cute. I can't wait to use it. It's been so long since I've seen pet-themed paper that doesn't look down-right amateurish and cheap...

and finally, how can this not provide inspiration...

I'm back for another weekend. A few goals I have for this weekend:

  • My home project for February is refurbishing an old desk that I've had for a while, and getting it ready for my March project (reorganising the scrap room). This weekend, I want to get all the components sanded, ready for undercoating. {completed!}
  • Prepare the meals for next week. {completed}
  • Go for two runs. {definitely NOT completed, and I'm feeling the worse for it}
  • Catch up with a few blog posts that I've drafted but haven't uploaded photos for. {completed}
  • Catch up on my Log Your Memory challenges. {completed the journalling portion, and I plan on finalising the layouts next weekend}
I'll check back on Sunday night to let you know how I went. {all-in-all, a productive weekend}

Better news to report this week, with a 0.5kg weight loss. I am much relieved, but can't say I've been 100% good with my eating this week. Exercise, on the otherhand has been super good (compared to normal). I also re-assessed my measurements, and in the last four weeks, I've lost 16cm in total. Pretty good eh? Especially since I've only lost 1.0kg during that time.
Boot camp has started on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, for 8 weeks. I've been to the first two sessions so far, and while they aren't as tough as I thought they would be, we have been promised that by Week 4 it will be really tough. Can't wait for that (sense the sarcasm).

I've been tossing up a few options for my eating plan, and while my current plan is working ok, it feels as though it is more of a maintenance plan, rather than a weight-loss plan. I really don't want to go back to counting points or calories, so I'm investigating some other options. This week I managed to stay with my self-imposed ban on the big 4 (alcohol, softdrink, icecream and softdrink), and plan on continuing this.

Our first boot camp has started the same week as this year's Biggest Loser. I really like this show. For me, it's not that motivating, but I do enjoy seeing the contestants shrink week after week. Plus, how can you not watch a show, where there are such cheesy/stupid comments. For example, the first episode, the contestants are entering an athletics field/track, and one of them says "when we walked in, I just knew we were in for some exercise". Well duh. I am looking forward to the promise of a slightly different format, with a bit more focus on preparing and cooking healthy food options.

My goals for next week, include:
  • lose >0.5kg (ideally 1kg)

  • maintain ban on the Big 4

  • restrict 'free' meals to 2 (last week I had 3)

  • exercise minimum 6 out of 7 days (for at least 30 minutes)
So until next week....

At this point in my life:
  • I am … training to run over a half-marathon distance

  • I need to change … how often I take photos

  • I can … now get through the morning, without emptying a box of tissues (thankyou Claratyne)

  • I deserve … some kind of a medal for giving up icecream & chocolate for 8 weeks

  • I know … I will achieve my fitness goals. I just have to keep persevering

  • I am thankful for … a husband who as suggested custom-fitting my scrap room, rather than moving around higgildy-piggildy pieces of furniture (I have to find the money, but he did suggest it!)

  • I am looking forward to ... Jason's birthday weekend (in March)

Favorite photo:

Photos this month were pretty light-on, and while this isn't the best photo from a technical view-point, I love the fact that it is entirely Sam. Not wanting to put his belly on the wet grass, but still wanting to chew his bone...

Most of Sunday was spent recovering from the night before. In fact, Monday was spent a very similar way. I regret not making the most of a four day weekend, like Caitie did, crafting. I did have big plans, but you know the old saying...

For Australia Day, we went to a friend's place for a good ol' traditional BBQ. The boys watched the cricket (also very Australian), and the girls sat around chatting, listening to Triple J's hottest 100. I served up a dessert dipping platter, that was extremely easy and very yummy. After a couple of hours of not recognising any of the songs being played, and wishing for the days that bands like Pearl Jam were in the countdown, I convinced Jason to go home.

Friday night we went over to the Gordon's so that Jason could help them set up their new broadband. Emma makes the best pies. Charlie did help out by trying to eat the raw pastry, in between, placing the pies on the oven tray. She is growing up so quickly. She told us all about her first day at day-care, or 'school' as she calls it. Sounds like she can't wait to go back next week. Angus, too, is getting bigger, and hasn't managed to rid himself of that red hair.

With boot camp starting next week, Leah, Ally and I attended the fitness and nutrition seminar held on Saturday. It was 3 hours long, and I wasn't at all impressed with the information provided to us. Having been told the same-old stuff before, I was hoping for more of the biomechanics stuff, that had been promised, but instead, it was a mish-mash of stuff off the internet. The organisers, while good at training, need to stick to that, and leave the mental & nutritional side of things to others.

Saturday night, we again headed to the Gordons' for tea, this time for a BBQ with Kirsty and Luke. Jason and I set up Kirsty and Luke the night before, by telling Charlie, that she should go 'shopping races' with them. Sure enough, she remembered, and how can anyone say no to that face. At one point, I was told "Come on Ony. No dinner, just shopping". Every adult went home with sore backs (from bending over very short prams and trolleys), and sore hamstrings.
